Would it be possible to make a resonable reconstruction of the "missing DW story Shada, i'd love to see an LC version!

I quite like this idea. How about a "recon" of "Dark Dimension" too???
No... I'm serious!

| How would you propose we create the soundtrack for all the bits that weren't recorded? |

Soundalikes. Something similar to the "Nightmare Fair" charity CD that was done a few years back.

| That's not really the sort of think LC does, since there's no soundtrack. I think it more likely that might be something Altered Vistas might be interested in trying presuming they could get the soundalikes. |

You could alter the Shada Webcast audio and make Mc Ganns' voice Bakers' voice and um , um, use some of the animations but with the 4th Doctor, it works sooooo much Better as a TV stroy than an audio and way better with Tom Baker than with Mc Gann! Is it possible to reconstruct the sound track with the scripts? Could somone possibly persuade Baker and Lala Ward to record a new sound track and a computer making the sounds of the "deceased" actors, spelling their dialogue with their voices phonetically? There must be a way, there must be set photos or something?

Xylok, if you had several spare millions of dollars and a few years, I'm sure you could come up with something. Let us know how that works out for you.
Seriously though, all of the options you mentioned are incredibly unrealistic and there are so many reasons they'd be problematic that I don't even have an interest in going listing them.
The best thing for you to do is watch the Shada Webcast and pretend it's Tom Baker.

Xylok, that all sounds nice, but hideously expensive!!! And the computer-aided voice thing would be immensely time consuming, not entirely realistic and would cost a fortune.
It's beyond the fans to do what you're suggesting, and it would not be cost-effective for 2Entertain to do it either, probably.
But soundalikes could be done relatively cheaply - a recording studio would be nice, but MArk Ayres has done outstanding stuff using just a PC microphone! You could get PJ of this parish to do Baker!
etc...

I have watched it and it is really good, can't Tom be persuaded to do it?
I'm sure they reconstructed some of the dialogue in Abominable Snowmen, only that was on a much smaller scale! |

I'm sure Tom would be willing to do it if you gave him enough money. How much do you have Xylok?
BTW, if you ask a question and you don't get the answer you like, asking the same question in another one of your threads is probably NOT going to get you that answer.
Reminds me of when my daughter thinks if she asks me the same question enough times, eventually, I'll change my answer and give her the one she wants.
No, it never works. Ever. |

Sorry, mis typing , getting arried away. ) However they did reconstruct some dialogue from Abominable snowmen, at least confirm that please? And no i realise it would be economically impossible to do it on a Shada scale! |

As I said on your other thread, they reconstructed 5 words - and even that doesn't entirely work (you probably wouldn't notice if you didn't know that it was there - but I did! And you can certainly notice if you look for it.)

| So to some it up it WILL never be released on dvd, which means the BBC might as well junk what they have got. |

Yes, they reconstructed like a five word line for Abominable. It took Mark freakin' forever.
If you realize it's economically impossible, then what's your point? |

Is there even any chance of the sixties "Missing" eps seeing a dvd, well from what everyoe says, no. They may as well junk what has been recovered, burn the documents and erase all knowledge of their exsistence, which includes erasing everyones memory. |

Well, once you stop throwing your tantrum you might be able to discuss this maturely. I know you're still a kid, but if you want to join in with adults you really should act like one.
It's one thing to release what we can on DVD, but the reality of the situation is that Shada, like the missing episodes, cannot be released on DVD in the same way as could any other story. That's not to say that they can't be released in some form, but suggesting we can get some lines of script, throw it into a computer and hit a magical 'make it sound like this dead guy' is well beyond the realms of reality.
Mark Ayres restored 5 words for the Abominable Snowmen release, but it's really obvious that they have been restored and only work because they blend in. To think you can go through every single piece of work Tom Baker did in the hope of reconstructing each and every line he would have said in Shada and in effect have scenes full of this would be painful to listen to.
We could use soundalikes, but unless they're exceptionally good they would fall flat as soon as they're mixed in with the original footage. |

| Jon Culshaw does an adequate impression which works for a comedy show. He's not good enough for a proper product where you're trying to play him as the real deal, especially when you're splicing him between actual authentic footage of Tom Baker himself. |

There are PLENTY of actors around who can do WONDERFUL voice impersonations. PLENTY. Even among the membership of this forum. Certainly perfect enough to record audio for all the missing scenes and then do a proper recon. |

"There will always be 108 missing episodes" But if they animate them like those two "Invasion" episodes, then it won't feel NEARLY as bad. |

I just hope they're far better than the professionals like Culshaw then, since his really wouldn't be good enough... |

Lalla's already done her lines for the Big Finish version, and as David's no longer with us would you use John's K9? In which case his lines have already been done too.
Chris Neame works in the US I think.
In terms of deceased actors, I think it's only Dennis' professor thats the problem. I think the porter recorded all of his. |
Shove that in your canon. |

Although I agree with you to an extent, this would probably be unacceptable on an official release (but even Tom Baker c2009 doesn't sound like Tom Baker c1979), I think it would work just fine on something like a fan-made recon.
And a professional product would have more budget/tricks at their disposal to make it work (revoicing the original footage for example, so voices match).
I don't think it would be unworkable, I think professional product would be "challenging" but I think the recon-market is more than capable of overlooking such faults.
I have not yet sought out recons (but have had the opportunity to enjoy the Ice Warriors courtesy of two kind people on this forum), but I would enthusiastically go after "new" material. I bought the charity "Nightmare Fair" for example.
Just a thought, it's obviously up to Loose Cannon, Altered Vistas, Big Finish etc if they actually want to go ahead with it.
I'm just saying that I, for one, would "buy" it.
And I'd love to see someone do something with "Dark Dimension" just for curiosity's sake.*
Kind Regards Dave
Clearly not "canon" whatever that means these days! |

I also thought that Jon Culshaw's work on the "missing" scenes from "Pyramids of Mars" DVD (extras) was very good.

I think Culshaw works in small doses (although I wasn't impressed with the bits from Pyramids), but his impersonations work more for the comedy value - I found the Dead Ringers sketches much funnier for how the poor sod at B&Q reacted to this strange guy telling him about the evils of indicator lights, rather than thinking 'wow, this guy really sounds like Tom Baker!'.
They might work for a fan recon (where the standards are lower), but I still think that creating a whole soundtrack for a fan recon is going to be a much larger challenge than Nick/Xylok seems to think it is, and it's certainly going to be extraordinarily hard, if not impossible, to pull off for a professional DVD. |
