They could, but they won't.
Why?
Dan Hill is against recons on the DVD range currently. |

Firstly, that's not the way Dan Hall currently sees it. He thinks nothing is better than recons.
Secondly, it's quite complicated to use LC's recons. The issues of rights would have to be addressed for all the photos, etc. It's an issue LC can avoid since they aren't making profit.
Thirdly, that's not the way Dan Hall currently sees it. He thinks nothing is better than recons. |

We've posted a petition on all the major Doctor Who sites. Last time I checked (a few days ago), we had roughly 350 signatures, which is really, not very many.
Regardless, the fact remains that Dan, for whatever reason, currently has no interest in putting recons on the DVDs, despite the fact that many, many, many well-respected people have advised him otherwise. Bottom line, it's easier to conquer a nation than it is to change one person's mind.
There's always the chance that Dan will change his mind, but my honest opinion is that it's extremely unlikely we'll see recons released on the DVDs while Dan Hall's in charge. |

I think 350 is quite a reasonable amount myself.
Nick, you couldn't possibly use the LC Space Pirates for an official release as it contains many images not of BBC copyright, not to mention the fact it wouldn't make sense to release an already available recon, you would make a new one.
I would imagine theoretically one could be done if desired as I think all of the relevant actors were in BBC productions
That said even if 2E were considering including recons I suspect Space Pirates would be way down the list |

| Space Pirates would be the most loical to include on the War Games releases. I would personaly love a recone of TSP on TWG release but I dont see it happening some how. |

If he didn't put an already completed reconstruction on the Time Meddler DVD, what on earth makes you think he'd have a new recon made and added onto the War Games DVD? Recons certainly aren't cheap, and there's absolutely no way they're going to add the illegal Loose Cannon reconstruction onto the DVD.
Please Nick, face facts. They don't want to put recons on DVD. It doesn't matter whether they're cheap or not - they have no interest in having them as extras. |

Oh , i was actually hoping for it this time. I do have the LC version of The Space Pirates and with the material and resources they have it is nothing less than outstanding. I can't see why the BBC can't just acknowledge the fantastic work you're doing! The years it Took to make Evil Of The Daleks, The Massacre Of St. Bartholowmews' Eve., The Daleks' Masterplan and Galaxy 4. We need to show these "Fools" just how much hardwork you have been putting into this we must force them to re consider , we can no longer offer passive resisatnce , you can't let your work go un noticed forever , we can't allow LC's efforts to be in vein. |

Well, there is the obvious fact that the reconstructions are wholesale copyright theft - they might do what they can to minimise the damage, however the reconstructions only survive because the BBC choose to take a blind eye to them, since they aren't really competing with released BBC products.
Unless you'd rather force the BBC to acknowledge them, only for the BBC to be forced to sue them for copyright theft for the past 10 years... |

| But that's not their fault if anyone's to blame it's the bbc for wiping them , it's only due to the fans we even have the audio left to work with , are they going to sue them for recording their programmes illegaly? |

LC's efforts are certainly not in vain, the recons were never produced with any intention of being on DVD, they were produced by fans for other fans to enjoy and that is what they do.
Personally I would be perfectly happy for 2E to legiitimise recon production so the actors, writers etc could get their dues and people like Mark Ayres would get some money and we could use the best quality audios and such like but, VHS quality issues aside, it makes not a hoot of difference to the people who produce them or the fans, indeed it means it costs far less for fans to obtain recons than if they were official
And i don't think we should offer ANY resistance, passive or otherwise, 2E make commercial decisions, if fans want to see recons officially they should make their feelings known to 2E by signing the petition or other forms of POLITE feedback, it is to no ones advantage to offer anything otherwise |

No, as thanks to one of the copyright acts of (I think) 1988, it's been deemed not illegal to tape off the TV as long as it's for personal use.
The difference is that the Loose Cannon, like all the reconstructions companies in the past, are taking this material and distributing them without the consent of the BBC. It doesn't matter whether the BBC wiped them or not, Loose Cannon are still taking material which does not belong to them, and distributing it without the permission of the license holders.
If the BBC took LC to court, they would very likely be found guilty and forced to pay a significant amount in damages, and no whining about how 'the jerks at the BBC wiped the episodes so LC should be allowed to steal their copyrighted material and distribute wholesale' will change that. |

Only one thing the people who taped the audios did not use it for peronal use , in a way they shared it amongst other fans. And to be honest i can only see that the audio is copyrighted as some of the visuals never exsisted there in the first place, simple answer there was nothing there to copy , most of the stills belonged in private hands anyway and the telesnaps were in the possession of Jhon Cura. I'm sorry to seem rude but i don't see why the BBC and LC don't join forces , surley things could be done faster? The LC team are long overdue the "Official " credit that they deserve! |

Shall i guess one , the BBC wouldn't be able to afford paying the royalties to the actors/actresses, they don't own the copyright to all the images and each image would have to be paid for officialy. But sureley there must be someway?? |

If the BBC and Loose Cannon joined forces, it would end the recons as they are completely. Loose Cannon would not be allowed to distribute anything for free - and the entire back catalogue would vanish, since LC, as a group working with the BBC, would not be allowed to distribute the copyrighted material. Look at Derek Handley - he used to work with Loose Cannon, however once he started working for the BBC the had to sever all ties with them.
At the same time, the reconstructions would be forced to be worked within a budget. It doesn't matter how cheap the recons were to make before - they would be forced to ensure all copyrighted material used is a) allowed to be used at all, and b) affordable. As a result, there's every risk that the official BBC/LC reconstruction is inferior to the unofficial project. In the end the only advantage to the fans of an official recon is that it's available on DVD. Of course, in the real world it will make the reconstructions legal, but everything else suggests that LC and the BBC working together will only be detrimental to the quality of everything LC has built up in the last 10 years. |

I'd settle for an Space Pirates photo gallery on the DVD, it was good that Moonbase & Wheel got some in on the Attack one.
Don't see it happening though. |

Reading your splendid article in NATEOL2 Richard, is that definately the case? Cura certainly seems to have sold the images with nothing more than tacit permission from the BBC? |

Indeed, whatever the pros and cons of 2E's position on recons it's surprising they haven't included more from the missing stories in the photo galleries, especially when there is a bit of a shortage of material |
