Hi all I was watching Power of the Daleks a the other day, and I notice the surviving clips from episodes 1 and 2 where not on the Lost in Time DVD. I was wondering where these clips come from and why they where not used on the dvd.

As I recall these were just found a couple of years ago, correct?

Which clips are you talking about - the ones in the TARDIS (such as Troughton looking at the mirror and seeing Hartnell)?

They're on Lost in Time - possibly marked as 8mm off-air material...

The only material which was located after Lost in Time was some Dalek production line footage, which was also located several years after the LC recon came out

I suspect he's talking about the ones with the Dalek production line. Those were just recovered recently, weren't they?

Maybe, but those are from later episodes - I think Episode 4.

All surviving clips are on Lost in Time with the exception of some found after it's release, they were the ones actually shown on BBC2 in an edition of Sunday Past Times but they are from Episodes 4 and 5, they have been released in one of the documentaries on Genesis of the Daleks, everything else is on Lost in Time.

They aren't in the LC recon, if that is what you mean, cos it was released before thei discovery

List of all clips is here

Do you think a remake recon Of Power Of the daleks might be possible soon as to fit in with the excellent Masterplan and Evil?

My wife just watched this, and this is her second recon after Myth Makers, this is also the first time I have watched a "legal copy" and I have to say it looks even more awesome on a VHS format than the crap compressed digital...

Although we have lost six episodes of pure Doctor Who legend, we can be thankful a handful of comrades down South (?) saw fit to point their 8mm cameras during a Power rerun and grab clips from eps 1-3 that really help add critical action on top of Cura's telesnaps.

When you see a small clip of real footage on the recons, it really helps the story on, doesnt it? It doesnt matter how short the clip, it brings it to life....................I love them! ianj

I agree , i also think CGI and specialy created material, material from other sources help the story to move along and even trick you into believing it's the original transmission, live action!

All i can say is i wish someone did cine for episodes of The Daleks' Masterplan 1,3,4,6,7,8,9,11 and 12 and The Evil Of The Daleks! What's the likely hood any more undiscovered cine clips, trailers ,clips , censors , or off air photos from these stories will turn up?

You have to think it's very, very low at this point. And time works against you with potential deterioration. You can't say for sure there won't be more finds, but the odds against it increase with ever passing day.

Oh, i was hoping Sue Malden was right in that "They all exsist somewhere" , i suupos finding them is the hard part?

The other alternative is recons and animations! Do you think it's likely we could see stories like Power and Masterplan animated or reconstructed for official dvd release in the nex 10 years?

If, hypothetically, any do still exist, the odds they wouldn't have decomposed beyond recovery grow slimmer everyday.

Honestly, I doubt we ever see Power or Masterplan animated or reconstructed for official DVD use. The best we can hope for with these two are Loose Cannon reconstructions or fan-made animations.

If we manage to get offical releases of recons or animations of the missing eps of Ice Warriors, Reign and Tenth, I think we'll be doing pretty damn good.

Do I think the BBC should animate and release every missing episode? Absolutely. But why would they? Currently, it would cost them considerably more to animate them than they could ever make back in DVD sales. Now maybe someday, animation will become so cheap it could be profitable, but it's not happening anytime soon.

I love DMP and I am amazed at the stuff we do have. Considering it was never sold over seas we have, 3 episodes. Clips from 3 missing episodes, Production photos and some off screen photos of episode 7.

And episode 1 was just animated (albeit crudely!)

Animating Mission to the Unknown would be like opening Pandora's Box. There will be a segment of Doctor Who fans yelling for the animation of The Daleks' Masterplan to finish what was started with Mission to the Unknown.

Not really Tox. Film, be it containing moving images or still, is largely very stable. It's only if it's kept in the most extreame of conditions that you might potentially have some problems.

It much more down to whether it still exists in the first place or not.

Much as I hate to admit it, this is totally true.

"There will always be 108 missing episodes"
But if they animate them like those two "Invasion" episodes, then it won't feel NEARLY as bad.
