Do you know any Doctor Who fans......

Actually, no. In fact, in 42 years I have only ever met one other Who fan, at uni. My only communication with fans has been this internet connection I got last year. I dabbled with Oh! Gee! first until I realised they were mainly insane.

I do understand why people don't want to buy a VHS player just for recons but what do they cost these days £30-£40? As the recons are free i don't think thats an unreasonable amount to spend then just transfer them onto DVD.

So that'll be a VHS player AND a DVD recorder, then? Not gonna happen, unfortunately.

Well i think the majority of people have a DVD recorder these days, however if not just watch the VHS version until/if you do, again a cost of £40 or so is still, in my view, well worth it (assuming recons are your thing of course)

I got a back up VCR at boot sale for £2. I still have not got around to getting the recons though.

In the US, people are practically giving them away.

I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee...clouds in my coffee...

I must admit that until recently I hadn't seen a single LC recon, I always imagined that they'd be a bit dull.

Having watched The Highlanders, Myth Makers, Moonbase and Underwater Menace recently I'm just sorry I didn't make more of an effort to watch them sooner because I thought they were brilliant.

You can really tell that they've been put together by people who genuinely love doing them, and the attention to detail is astounding.

If you thought you'd find them a bit dull, think again and give them a go.

I'm glad I'm not a shameless name-dropper like some people!

Ive known about the recons for years but it seems so fiddly sending tapes off for the copiers to copy them and send them back again -you have to hope they get there and then hope they get back.

Now if there was an option where I just send Loose Cannon a couple of hundred pounds and they buy the tapes for me and send the entire set and then the new ones as and when they are made, that I'd happily do.

I assume there is no option to that though right?

In the olden days (back when you could select your dubber yourself rather than having LC select one for you) you could ask the dubber if they'd accept such an arrangement (you were still limited to 3 or 4 tapes at a time, rather than "the entire set").

My dubber was excellent about this. He would tell me how much the blank tapes and postage would be, I'd send him a check for that amount (actually I would add in a few coins tip, as I know I was asking him to go above and beyond with my request, even though he never asked for any gratuity), and a week or so later I'd have some new recons to watch. I haven't ordered any of the recons since they changed their ordering process, one of these days I'll have to get around to e-mailing my old dubber and see if he's still in the dubbing business as there's a few recons I need to get.

But anyway, It can't hurt to ask which ever dubber LC selects for you if they are willing to handle such an arrangement (for 3 or 4 tapes at a time obviously, the "whole set" is a bit much to be asking for in one go).

If you specify a dubsite you will get forwarded onto them anyway, the new system is mainly designed to share the load as evenly as possible and to help us spot inactive dubsites quickly, if you want someone in particular just ask for them
