| You're thinking of the JV recon. I've seen it. It's not bad, but I think the LC crew could make massive improvements. |

HAHAHA. Be careful when mentioning The Web of Fear. We would not want DWO to jump to the wrong conclusions and set the internet ablaze with activity again. |

I'd most like to see "Evil of the Daleks" next.
I need to start ordering recons again. I stopped about the time they announced the Space Pirates revision because I didn't want to get something and then have an improved version come out almost immediately afterwards. Now that TSP is out I can get that though, and there are a few other gaps in my collection it's probably time to fill as well. |

Why are the Elaphe (Elephe?) recons so rarely mentioned when talking about recons? They're newish and all, and they use narrated audio, but I've watched 10 Elephe recons for every Loose Cannon I've seen .... so they're certainly out there ....

I have the redone version of "The Myth Makers" but not "The Highlanders." I should probably get "The Highlanders" because the footage of barechested sailors battling it out (I believe it was taken from Mutiny on the Bounty) didn't look right with the foggy northern setting of the story and I've heard the LC team replaced this footage with something more appropriate.
Besides, I quite like that story even if they do make the Jacobites the good guys. |

They aren't narrated. They use the original soundtracks. |

Actually, DWO ended up giving free publicity to hoaxers. They heard about the hoax (rumor) through three supposedly reliable sources, and then they printed a recovery story around the hoax. As everybody well knows, DWO kept supporting the hoax (rumor) until it finally sank in that nothing had been recovered. |

These are badly advised recons, they use the narrated audio and also are distributed digitally (directly from source), this is likely to cause problems for all recons as this is what the BBC (apparantly) dislike, Using Mark Ayres cd's is likely to send the man into a lather, turns him green and has him ripping his shirt I believe

The later ones are usually of better video quality as format confversion is less of an issue these days, The quality of Space Pirates and Highlanders is similar to a shop bought VHS IMHO |

| I would imagine if it doesn't say V-II, it's the first version. The Highlanders and the Mythmakers are both fairly recent released (last year or so, correct Russ?) |

I have very high hopes for the Savages given how fantastic the preview looks! |

Yup, time to get a move-on! Plus, think how nice it will be to compare the Dalek Masterplan recon to the original once Ash reveal's he's been hoarding it for the last 30 years! |

Well for Myth Makers if the recon has full screen text captions its the old version, Highlanders is a lot clearer than the old version but nothing specific springs to mind to tell you, the newer versions have an interview though whereas the old ones didn't |

I previously though they drying up too. I know some of the big retailers have announced they've stopped selling VCR's and doctor who isn't released on VHS any more, but there are still a lot of people using VCR's to record (most households have DVD-player not recorder). I have a HDD-rec so don't use my VCR to record programs any more, so haven't bought a tape for the last year or so. I recently went out to buy some for recons, and found them in most places you'd expect. Also found some decent prices - Maxell e180 99p and Sony e180 £1.40

This one is a hard one IMO. The fact they are illegally using the copyrighted narrated audios means both that it can disenfranchise the Beeb on the idea of fan-recons and that they have a limited audience (as only available on download sites). If you take the recon's themselves and examine themselves, then whether they are a preference to LC is a personal choice. The audio on them is nice and clear, obviously, and judging by the Space Pirates preview clip on the LC site, newer LC's audio is clearer than the old stuff. I do like the narrated (I know some people don't) especially as peering at the TV to read the moving text on my old LC's is a bit distracting. However Elaphe recons are purely static telesnaps, where as LC are now putting more movement into scenes. That said we may see more in other recons to follow too. I think elaphe recons can appear clearer because they are not limited to VHS and so can be released in higher resolutions, though this isn't always as straight forward as it might seem as some of the telesnaps used are upscaled versions of smaller images. |
