They look like LC recons to me, with covers by Christopher Loftus*

* sometimes posts his covers in the DVD covers forum

That could be a potential banana skin for both the seller and LC themselves

If there is any action taken, hopefully it would just be against the seller. You might want to let this go. Reporting it might cause serious problems for Loose Cannon. With so many episodes missing, the last thing we need is for LC to stop making recons.

If it's not reported there are just going to be more and more of these.

I NEVER said I was going to report it, I merely stated that the recons being sold on ebay could be a potential banana skin for for all involved - like most genuine people on this forum, I enjoy what LC do, and hope they continue to produce their excellent recons

Would you be willing to risk exposing Loose Cannon to potential legal action just to shut a seller down? If the BBC get enough reports about telesnap recons being a problem, they could take action. They won't bother with an individual selling the recons. They could go after the people making the telesnap recons in the first place. If Loose Cannon goes down, then that will be the end of lost episode recons for the Doctor Who fans.

Perhaps I wasn't clear or assumed my point would be understood, sorry.

If it's not reported there are just going to be more and more of these, thus making them a much bigger target and perhaps generating more interest against them. Nipping them in the bud so that others don't just say, "oh, look. A really easy way to make some money." and join in might not be a terrible idea. That's not to say it would necessarily be possible to make a dent in this.

No one is going to "go after" individual sellers. But they'll pull the releases. LC isn't selling anything. The BBC is aware of LC. The BBC is aware of whatever is going on with ebay. This has been going on for years, and at least they aren't mentioning LC here. But, as we can probably assume, the DVD material has probably been "upgraded" by taking advantage certain things... :(

I don't care about the seller and I am, to put it mildly, not one to try to have copyright law enforced (though it's awful to profit from it). However, just trying to have a discussion on what may or may not be best for LC and the community.

It isn't only a matter of selling something that is a copyright violation. Just making an item and giving it to others could be enough to receive a cease and desist order from BBC legal representatives.

People have to be very careful. Some people at the BBC are aware of the recons, but the BBC legal representatives are another entity that could take action if they feel that it is necessary.

I have searched other threads and Russ is a moderator here for the LC forum that might be able to help. In a thread from 2009, there was a mention of LC recons on eBay. He said "Could someone PM me a link please. We do actually have ways to stop some listings."

The best way to get the listing pulled with the minimum risk to LC would be to report it to Russ and let him handle it. As he says, there is a chance he could stop the listing.

Originally, I posted in Missing Episodes a topic "Missing Episode DVD WARNING" - but then deleted the post when I found this one.

UPDATE - As of today, Sunday April 21, 2013 - the listings for those Missing Episodes DVDs are gone.

The best way to scupper them is to let the buyers know that they can get the recons for free.

I believe Ebay protects buyer IDs these days. You may be able to message them, where it only discloses their info if they reply.

It doesn't look like this guy is nearly as successful as the last. It was surely Chris's covers and labels that helped those ones along. People probably knew they could get it online and were just willing to throw money at someone who will make their DVD shelf look more complete.

This new guy seems to be a shady individual in general. He's selling what looks like hacked satellite TV boxes. Gotta love the $0.01 buy it now price with $60 shipping. I assume that's for either tax reasons or to avoid proper refunding when the customer finds out the goods don't work.
