Well there has been a lot of progress in producing new recons, just not much progress in getting them ready to release.
There were hopes that the BBC were interested in using the recons either on DVD or through i-Tunes and it took a long while before they finally indicated that they weren't going down this route. So whilst the episodes themselves have been mostly finished, very few of the extras have been worked on, as these wouldn't have been required for the BBC.
Russ is working on these, but things like moving house and building works etc. means that progress is sadly much slower than was hoped.

The other factor is that by approaching the BBC the recons are now under more scrutiny than before, and I expect even more so with plans afoot to release animations of the missing stories (well Reign at least!).

I think the big key going forward is to remain low key, continue supporting the BBC and their releases (and encouraging others to do so also) and remain simply as non profit fan tributes shared fan to fan.

Based on the little bit of information that I have, my intepretation from the forum comments is that they were thinking recons are not something they care about. Unless there is something I dont know, the Reign of Terror animation could be viewed more as filler to be able to sell the existing episodes (as they did with the Invasion) rather than being in the animated Who business.

The two existing Wheel in Space episodes have already been released on DVD so it appears they have done what they wanted. Having a recon of the missing episodes could also reinforce our desire that people buy the official released Lost in Time DVD set because our few reconstructed episodes would make no sense without it.

The same thing could be true regarding the Web of Fear where they have had their release of the only existing episode. Other reconstructed stories have even less existing that they could market.

While, I personally would not have approached the BBC, perhaps in love, we tended to view incorrectly our mission? When a few seconds of 8mm film get discovered, our hearts go pitter patter. Yet their eye is on things that will sell volumes. We are helpful and try to encourage fandom and encourage purchases and viewership to the BBC, not hurt it. Notice that they have graciously allowed LC to remain? My thoughts are to go forward low key, continue supporting the bbc, and don't bug them anymore before they swat us.:)

I will talk to anyone from LC off forum if desired.

I don't want to press on anyone as that's not fair but does anyone know when the next LC release will be as it has been 2 years since the last release ?

My destiny is in the stars, and to see the day when all 97 missing eps of Doctor Who and Shada are recons and or animations on dvd!

I understand your frustration.
Just watched Wheel In Space on you tube.
Thankfully,I can hitch my puter up to my big telly so It looked really good.
I would love a "hard copy" of this story and until there is a change in personell at the beeb and the possibility of getting LC the recognition they deserve, then for legality,I guess youtube is our only option.
but I can still watch them again and again,so no real problem there.

But I cointinue to support the Beeb and would be over the moon if an agreement could be sorted.

Its all good stuff :)

RALPH.

Well until LC officially release them ,you could always rip the episodes from youtube and make your own DVD (if you use firefox it's as simple as anything to snatch videos from the tube )
