Well Ian has, since he made it. And since it's fairly obvious he doesn't want it publicly distributed based on his comments here, I'm really not sure it's that great an idea to keep on badgering him about it...

I take it, hu hum , no one actually has this mysterious Shada recon?

From what I remember of the Krargs, the effect of the fire on their bodies were keyed in during the studio recording.

Question for you Mr Levine:

How does the above mentioned recon you were involved in differ from the BBC release and is your available to view anywhere?

A - yes
B - no

Somewhere in my loft I still have a VHS copy of this recon. IIRC the missing scenes were represented by text lifted from a DWM archive and typed onto a Commodore 64. This was the first pirate tape I ever acquired. I obtained my copy in 1984 for £5 from a certain Blackpool hoaxer who used to advertise in the Exchange & Mart (is that publication still going?).

Kevin Davies and Steven Cambden created them for the version that I and Keith Barnfather did in 1984 to show at Panopticon.

Then somehow JNT got hold of the film bits and reused them.

Hi Richard, out of curiosity, could you tell me which parts of the 1992 Shada bits were reconstructed elements? Aside from the obvious stills, I'm curious to know how many of the model sequences are original and which ones were added? I know some things were done at the time of recording and have always wondered how many bits were added in 92.

Cheers
Dave

It's partway through the Now & Then. Originally, Michael Sheard had just read the couple of lines of missing dialogue (which is how I scripted it), but we were at PanoptiCon a few weeks before the asset delivery date, so Steve grabbed hold of Jon Culshaw and Lis Sladen whilst they were there and got them to record the lines.

Pip Posted - 11 May 2009 : 23:16:20
On one of the featurettes, they reference a deleted scene which was never filmed, and get Culshaw and Sladen to re-enact it as the Doctor and Sarah.

Given their luck Loose Cannon had with some actors for the Recon interviews and extras it's quite possible actors like Daniel Hill or Victoria Burgoyne might even be happy to voice their missing lines, if asked nicely. It might be a problem if the Beeb ever approached them after though. or if an actor died before an official effort happened would they then approach the fan endeavour?

I suppose another issue for a fan version might be Douglas Adam's copyright. Do his estate pay more attention than others?

Not for someone who's been an award winning record producer for thirty four years.

To be fair, he only did one line, and that was only because he was asked off the cuff if he'd do it, then given a microphone by Steve at on the AV desk at one of the Panopticon and it was recorded there and then!

Richard

At the same time, wasn't Pyramids one of those stories done during the period where Tom was unavailable as he was in France, so Culshaw (or some other soundalike) would have been the only option to reconstruct the missing scene?

Still, although I'm not impressed with the outcome, it's still good they included some attempt at trying to remake the scene...

I think Culshaw works in small doses (although I wasn't impressed with the bits from Pyramids), but his impersonations work more for the comedy value - I found the Dead Ringers sketches much funnier for how the poor sod at B&Q reacted to this strange guy telling him about the evils of indicator lights, rather than thinking 'wow, this guy really sounds like Tom Baker!'.

They might work for a fan recon (where the standards are lower), but I still think that creating a whole soundtrack for a fan recon is going to be a much larger challenge than Nick/Xylok seems to think it is, and it's certainly going to be extraordinarily hard, if not impossible, to pull off for a professional DVD.

They may as well junk what has been recovered, burn the documents and erase all knowledge of their exsistence, which includes erasing everyones memory.

Blimey, you're starting to sound like the Phantom Whoru now!

I also thought that Jon Culshaw's work on the "missing" scenes from "Pyramids of Mars" DVD (extras) was very good.

Although I agree with you to an extent, this would probably be unacceptable on an official release (but even Tom Baker c2009 doesn't sound like Tom Baker c1979), I think it would work just fine on something like a fan-made recon.

And a professional product would have more budget/tricks at their disposal to make it work (revoicing the original footage for example, so voices match).

I don't think it would be unworkable, I think professional product would be "challenging" but I think the recon-market is more than capable of overlooking such faults.

I have not yet sought out recons (but have had the opportunity to enjoy the Ice Warriors courtesy of two kind people on this forum), but I would enthusiastically go after "new" material. I bought the charity "Nightmare Fair" for example.

Just a thought, it's obviously up to Loose Cannon, Altered Vistas, Big Finish etc if they actually want to go ahead with it.

I'm just saying that I, for one, would "buy" it.

And I'd love to see someone do something with "Dark Dimension" just for curiosity's sake.*

Kind Regards
Dave

Clearly not "canon" whatever that means these days!

Lalla's already done her lines for the Big Finish version, and as David's no longer with us would you use John's K9? In which case his lines have already been done too.

Chris Neame works in the US I think.

In terms of deceased actors, I think it's only Dennis' professor thats the problem. I think the porter recorded all of his.
