So color me curious. I LOVE the LC recons! Yet, I suspect the majority of you guys don't have them.

I'm curious as to why?

Any insights would be appreciated!

Indeed, but we certainly don't want to interfere with official releases of things like CD's which is why they are as far away from that as possible

Were the BBC happy to turn a blind eye to this when they were doing their own VHS range, because the two were running in tandem weren't they?

On those lines, the BBC are less likely to bother if its in a degradable format, that doesn't make it safe but safer

I wish I had known that. I used to buy the VHS tapes direct from the UK in the early 90s. (Daleks - The Early Years. Cybermen - The Early Years. The Invasion 2,3,5,6,7,8. The Ice Warriors 1,4,5,6. The Tenth Planet 1,2,3.) I had to get each tape converted to 525 format just to play them over here. I was charged $25 each time for the first hour and an additional $10 for each hour after that on each tape. It was like buying two tapes for the price of one.

Over here, people are practically giving VHS players away free.

Wouldn't that conflict with another countries region code? It is possible to get around the codes on some DVD players, but is it possible with VHS players?

Newer recons are about the standard of a shop bought VHS, older ones may be more multi gen.

Obviously this depends on the quality of the source material, something like Space Pirates which was mostly sourced from screen grabs of a dvd of a 35mm film print is going to look better than the mostly telesnap based stories such as Savages

They certainly aren't murky and difficult to make out as they could be in the old days

Why can't you e mail anybody Cookminster? Even if you have a problem with your normal e mail just get a hotmail account and use that

Do you know any Doctor Who fans that have a VHS player/DVD Recorder? They can copy the VHS tape onto DVD for you.

Sadly DVD's etc aren't an option for distribution

Couldn't we (as a forum) find a home for those tapes? Pass them on to the next person as it were. No sharing on DVD, just 'rent' the tapes out.

I have approaching half the LC recons and am more than happy to send my 1st generation VHS's on to a good home, so long as recipient pays postage! They are cluttering up the space needed for a new baby, and I transferred them to my recorder's hard drive recently. So if you want any of the VHS tapes, reply here. I have the following (plus may be able to offer others, like JV ones or older LC ones, if you let me know):

LC17 Marco Polo
LC21 The Ice Warriors
LC22 Fury from the Deep
LC23 The Underwater Menace
LC24 The Macra Terror *REVISED*
LC25 The Abominable Snowmen
LC27 The Highlanders *REVISED*
LC14 The Crusade
LC15 The Enemy of the World
LC16 The Massacre [of St. Bartholomew's Eve]
LC28 The Space Pirates *REVISED*
LC29 The Savages *REVISED*

Well it saves you having to send off a tape and label!

Hoping to get "Daleks' Master Plan" soon.

Thanks, Russ.. I'll do that!... I am certainly in the mood to "experience" a few Doctor Who stories that are new (to me). From what I have seen and heard of these recons, I look forward to it.

Well, I have made a few attempts to get some recons here in the U.S. (not recently, over a year ago) and of 3 people I contacted on the list, none were currently sharing copies any longer. I got a bit disappointed and moved on to other things... but I might try again later. I'd love to see a few of them.

The requesting system has been tightened up quite a bit since then so give it another try

So Russ, when are you releasing them on Blu-Ray in hi-def?.

Maybe I am in the minority then....I print out covers for the vhs tapes and put them on my shelf......and then I copy them to dvd and do the same!........oh well....we are allowed to be different!

Yeah we have to make allowances for weird people too

Thanks darling.....glad you're so supportive and understanding

I didn't think our relationship was out in the open, I thought it was a secret. Darling indeed
Octofishpie Posted - 07 May 2008 : 20:35:08
Well for me it was the format too. But I've seen the light and received three on vhs recently. We've still got a vcr so that's not a problem. Likely as not I'll buy a vcr dvdr combo and transfer them that way.

Although it's the very reason they still exist, I can't for the life of myself get them. VHS.

I appreciate the work and all and I got Fury from the Deep and Invasion, but won't get any of them anymore. Not because I don't like them, it's just that I'm on the go all the time because of the nature of my work and it's a bit hard to carry a vhs around

'sides, the last VHS player I had seemed to acquire a taste for Fury of the deep and required some (un)skilled surgery. Alas, it's bereft of life. It has ceased to exist. It's an ex-vhs.

That's precisely what I do. I dub them to DVD then box the originals away in the basement just in case.

I would put them in the loft but I doubt my upstairs neighbours would appreciate me going into their house.

Erm...yeah I know, that's kinda why I made such an overblown and ridiculous comment
